Skills
Set Up:
- Divide children into two teams
- Mark out a court with cones (if not already marked)
- Use a small basketball ring for a goal or set out two hoops if you don’t have a ring
Description:
Each player is allowed 3 bounces and then must pass.
Use a small basketball ring for a goal or a child standing in a hoop who has to catch the ball in order for it to be a goal (rotate goal people).
Variations:
- Add in additional balls
- Change the rules – you must pass to everyone on the team before you can attempt a goal
- No bouncing only passing
- Vary the number of bounces allowed
- Two balls
Teaching Points:
Catching
- Watch the ball
- Soft fingers, big hands
- Thumbs together and up (butterfly hands) for balls above waist and fingers pointing down (wriggly worms) for balls below waist
- Reach out for the ball and catch with two hands
Dribbling
- Push the ball down when dribbling
- Keep the ball in front and to the side
