How do I assess a student?
Creating an assessment
Watch the how to video or follow the written instructions below.
First, you need to make sure you have students in your class. See 'Adding and Managing Students' for information on how to add students.
Then you need to create your assessment:
- Click on the 'Dashboard' button in the top right-hand side of the page (or the 'Dashboard' button next to your class if you teach multiple classes)
- Click on the subheading ‘Assessments’ (it’s between 'Overview' and 'Programs')
- Click the ‘Add assessment’ button
- Give your assessment a name E.g. Year 2C, Term 3, and select a date for when you plan to run the assessment
- Select which challenges you would like to administer. **Important: If you would like all the challenges assessed to be on the one report you must select all the challenges in the one assessment. Multiple assessments cannot be combined into one report**
- Select which students you are planning to assess
- Then click ‘Save’ if you are starting the assessment at another time or ‘Save & Run’ if you want to get started straight away.
Running an assessment
Watch the how to video or follow the written instructions below.
Before beginning, click on the “i” icon in the blue assessments bar at the top of the assessment dashboard. This takes you through each of the assessments and how to run them in detail.
Important - Take the time to read the information about the assessments and watch the videos. We need all assessments to be done as similarly as possible with the same equipment and instructions. All data you enter is live data and will be used to calculate the percentile ranks of your students and students around Australia.
Now you are ready to assess!
- Click on the three dots to the right of the assessment you created
- Select 'Start/Edit'
- Select the student you would like to start with and click on the blue box that says 'Enter results'
- Select the challenge you would like to begin with E.g. Balance
- Click 'Go', run the challenge, and enter the result
- If you would like to enter observations at the same time click on ‘Observations’ to see the list. Tick the ones that are relevant
- You can also add any comments if you would like about the challenge E.g. Sam was distracted during the balance challenge
- Click ‘Save trial’
You can now move on to a different skill challenge with the same student or move to a new student by clicking on the blue 'Next student' box.
What skills should I assess when?
KIDDO suggests the following assessment schedule. This is based on the skills being taught, managing the assessment load, the year group of the students, and capturing skill development. This is just a suggestion and can be modified for your school. You might only want to assess once or twice a year.
Term 1 | Term 2 | Term 3 | Term 4 | |
Kindergarten/Pre-school | No assessment | Balance, Jump | Run, Bounce & Catch | Kick |
Foundation | Balance, Run, Jump, Bounce & Catch | Run, Kick | Jump, Bounce & Catch | Balance |
Year 1 | All skills | Jump, Kick | Bounce & Catch, Balance | Kick |
Year 2 | Balance | Kick, Run | Jump, Bounce & Catch | All skills |
Year 3-6* |
*The KIDDO FMS assessment is only validated for use until the end of Year 2. The Balance and Bounce and Catch assessments should not be used past Year 2 as there is a limit to the score that can be achieved and these assessments are no longer able to differentiate effectively between different levels of proficiency. The Run, Jump, and Kick assessments can continue to be used if you wish to keep tracking progress as students will continue to show improvement with ongoing opportunity plus teaching and learning. From Years 3-6, it is important to continue providing the opportunity for students to use skills in contexts such as sports and invasion games.
I've completed some of the assessment challenges with my students. Why does it still say '0 students assessed'?
The program only recognises when the student has completed all of the assessment challenges you have selected. Once a student has completed all of your selected challenges, it will mark them as complete.
How do I print the reports?
- Click on the 'Dashboard' button in the top right-hand side of the page (or the 'Dashboard' button next to your class if you teach multiple classes)
- Click on the subheading ‘Students’ (it’s between 'Lessons' and 'Insights')
- Click on the box to the left side of the student’s name whose report you would like to print or click on the box at the top of the column to select all students.
- Once you have clicked a box next to a student, the option to ‘Download’ or ‘Email’ will appear at the top of the list of students.
- To print the reports, click ‘Download’, and select the report type that you would like to print, (either the percentile report or progress report).
- Click on ‘Prepare for download’ and then a pink ‘Download now’ box will appear. Click on this and the file will download to your computer, where you can then print the reports out.
Time-saving tip: To download all the reports for the students in the class at once click on the check box at the top of the column next to the name sub-heading. This then selects all students, and you can download all reports in one go and then print them.
How do I add my school logo to the reports?
You must be the manager for your school to be able to add the school logo or change the wording in the reports. In the ⚙ ‘cog’ management menu in the top right of the screen, click on ‘Reports’. In this section, you can add your logo and this will go onto all the reports.
How do I customise the wording of the reports?
You must be the manager for your school to be able to add the school logo or change the wording in the reports. In the ⚙ ‘cog’ management menu in the top right of the screen, click on ‘Reports’. In this section, you can add your own wording for the introductory text in both the percentile report and progress reports.
If you change your mind and would like to use the default introductory text, just remove your text and save it, then it will default back to KIDDO’s standard text.
