Why KIDDO was adopted
When Narelle (without a formal PE background) was asked to teach sport at her small, remote school, she needed support that worked in an isolated setting with limited resources. She discovered KIDDO, and its ready-to-use lessons, assessments, and guidance gave her the confidence and structure to deliver quality PE from day one.
“I actually didn’t have any idea how to teach PE before discovering KIDDO"
Cocos started using KIDDO in junior primary with a focus on Fundamental Movement Skills. As KIDDO’s upper primary tools became available, teachers across all year levels now use it for:
- Lesson planning and games
- Assessment and tracking
- Parent communication and reporting
“I’ve been using KIDDO for a very long time in all sorts of different ways. It gave me lesson plans, activities, and most importantly, an assessment tool I could use for my students.”
- Teachers use KIDDO's assessment tools to identify students needing extra support and adapt their lessons accordingly.
- Because the tools are so intuitive, they’ve also helped non-specialist teachers feel confident and capable delivering quality PE.
“When teachers saw how easy the tools were to use, it helped them see how valuable KIDDO could be.”
At Cocos, assessment isn’t an add-on, it’s central to how movement is taught, tracked, and celebrated.
- All K–Year 2 students are assessed twice a year on key skills like balance, jumping, and catching - over 200 FMS assessments completed since 2021.
Results aren’t just collected - they’re used.
- Results are shared with classroom teachers, compiled into whole-school summaries, and the automated reports sent home with semester reports, giving families a clear picture of their child’s progress.
“The most important part was the assessment—being able to track students and record their progress. It guided our planning and complemented our reporting.”
Over the years, KIDDO has become a shared and sustainable program at the school across changes in the school administration and new teaching staff:
- Used to upskill staff and support less experienced PE teachers
- Embedded across both campuses at Cocos with plans to continue
- Teachers are supported by resources, games, and ongoing help from the KIDDO team
