Beanbag Balances

A simple activity to develop balance that can be used as a break from more intense activities. Can be completed indoor or outdoor, and doesn’t require much space. 

Set up

Each child is given a bean bag and stands in their own space.

 

How to play
Step 1
  • Children balance their bean bag on their head and the educator instructs them to complete various poses or movement 
    • Stand
    • Walk
    • Crawl
    • Run
    • Jump
    • Hop
    • Sit-to-stand
    • Animal walks 
Step 2
  • Add different types of balances such as, balance your bean bag on your:
    • Elbow
    • Foot
    • Knee
    • Back
    • Stomach
    • Nose
    • Hand
    • Create your own balance

 

Variations
Make it easier
  • Stick to simple movements, such as walking or balancing on one leg
Make it harder
  • Add in faster or bigger movements, such as hopping or running
  • Get children to balance more than one bean bag
