KIDDO's Physical Literacy Movement Dice

Educator and child hopping

Support children’s physical literacy with KIDDO’s Movement Dice — a fun and flexible way to get kids moving indoors or outdoors!

Set up

Choose a safe, open space where children can move freely. Show and name each movement or animal action on the KIDDO Movement Dice before playing. Have some music ready to play and keep a few small balls or beanbags nearby for object control movements.

How to play
Step 1
  • Roll the KIDDO Movement Dice into the centre of the play space.
Step 2
  • Ask the children to call out the movement or animal the dice lands on. Invite everyone to move around the space like the animal or perform the movement shown.
Movements include:
  • Frog jump
  • Jump high
  • Beanbag balances
  • Bear walk
  • Run on the spot
  • Throw & catch
  • Balance
  • Beanbag around body
  • Move to music
  • Star jumps
  • Gallop
  • Kids’ choice
Step 3
  • After each movement, roll the dice again. Continue until all sides have been explored or the children are ready for a new challenge.
Variations
Make it easier
  • Role model each animal movement before or during play
  • Give verbal prompts such as “Can you gallop like a horse?” or “Let’s jump like a frog!”
Make it harder
  • Combine movements, for example, “Jump like a frog, then gallop like a horse.”
  • Challenge children to remember and repeat two or three movements in sequence
