Choo-Choo Train

girl crawling out of tunner

Here comes the train through the tunnel! This imaginative activity is perfect for babies who are exploring their crawling skills.

Set up

Have a clear space on the ground for baby to safely crawl on. Parent stands 1-3 steps away from baby, with legs apart.

How to play
Step 1:
  • Parent stands with feet apart – creating a tunnel
  • Encourage baby to crawl through the tunnel
Step 2:
  • As baby crawls through, they can be caught by parent squeezing their legs shut for a few seconds, and then letting baby pass through
Step 3:
  • Continue doing this until baby learns to crawl through faster
Variations
Make it easier
  • Start by just making the tunnel, and only introduce the leg squeeze if baby is ready
Make it harder
  • Vary the time intervals that the “tunnel” closes
