Clean Up the Mess

Oh no, what a mess we’ve made! This activity is good for both the you and your child. Clean up the day’s mess whilst also learning new skills, such as grasping and developing hand-eye coordination.

 

 

Set up

Scatter toys around a clear, safe space, inside or outside. Alternatively, use the play area that baby has just finished playing in. Have a bucket/toy box to place toys back into.

How to play
Step 1
  • Begin by saying something along the lines of; “Oh no... I’ve made a mess! Can you help me tidy up all the toys?”
Step 2
  • Help baby bend down and pick up the toys, returning them to the toy box
Step 3
  • Give baby a high-five once all the toys are cleaned up
Variations
Make it easier
  • For younger children, sit them up in the play area with toys and box within arms reach
Make it harder
  • For older babies, spread the toys further apart to encourage crawling or walking
