Dodge It

This simple take on the traditional activity of dodge is great for developing tracking skills and locomotion in young children.

Set up

Stand ~5 metres away from your child with a small, light ball or happy sack. 

How to play
Step 1
  • Gently toss the ball towards your child, and ask them to dodge it (if it hits them, they turn into a frog!)
  • Aim for below waist-level, or out to the sides 
  • Do this a few times, varying the placement of the ball
Step 2
  • Change over and now dodge the balls that your child is throwing at you
Variations
Make it easier
  • Throw in the same direction each time
  • Throw slower
Make it harder
  • Change the directions you throw the ball
  • Throws the ball when your child isn't expecting it
  • Throw faster
  • Throw a bigger ball/toy
