Egg and Spoon Race

boy running

This classic is always a hit and can be adapted to be played alone or with others!

Set up

Have a spoon and either a hard-boiled egg or toy egg that fits on the end of the spoon

How to play
Step 1
  • If playing with more than one child, separate children into two lines and stand 10 metres apart
Step 2
  • Give your child the spoon, and balance the egg on the end
Step 3
  • For a team activity, each child has a spoon and must run to the other end when it is their turn, balancing the egg on the spoon and transferring it to the next person’s spoon without dropping it
  • For just one child, have them try and run around an obstacle whilst balancing the egg on the spoon
  • You can join in to and make it even more fun!
  • Aim to not drop the egg at all, otherwise you must start again
Variations
Make it easier
  • Shorten the distances needed to carry the egg
  • Your child can use two hands to hold the spoon
Make it harder
  • Lengthen the distances needed to carry the egg
