Mirror Mirror (Babies)
Mirror play is a great way to encourage tummy time and movement for babies.
Set up
Place the baby in front of a mirror, on their tummy or sitting with you. Lay a teddy, small ball or toy in front of the baby.
How to play
Step 1
- Get the baby's attention by knocking on the mirror
- As the baby looks in the mirror describe what they are seeing: “Look at you in the mirror”
Step 2
- Try making movements with your arms that the baby can see in the mirror – clapping, shaking, rolling
- As the baby makes movements, copy them
Step 3
- Try reaching for the ball or a teddy and move it between your hands, throw in the air, roll it on the ground
- Place the ball/teddy on the ground and see if the baby will reach for it
- Make different facial expressions for the baby to observe and copy
