Supported Standing

This simple exercise familiarises babies with the sensation of standing, encouraging independent stands.

Set up

Make sure you are seated, with cushions or blankets around to protect baby from falling 

How to play
Step 1
  • Support your baby whilst they stand on your lap, holding baby's trunk
Step 2
  • With hands on their torso, gently lift baby up and down to encourage weight in the feet
Variations
Make it harder
  • As your baby develops, encourage them to hold onto nearby toys or furniture instead of you
