Prof. Michael Rosenberg from UWA opened the day by welcoming attendees to our biggest KIDDO Conference yet. He set the tone for the conference by sharing the latest Australian Fundamental Movement Skill data collected by schools across the country. A key finding from the data was that the school a child attends can make a significant difference to their Fundamental Movement Skill development, highlighting the important role teachers play in supporting children’s physical literacy development.
Joshua Knuiman, founder of Exercise on the Spectrum and Senior Exercise Physiologist, delivered an insightful and inspiring plenary focused on creating more inclusive physical activity experiences for neurodivergent children.
Sean de Morton from Active Education Australia led an engaging and practical session exploring how trust, relationships, and connection underpin effective physical education. Drawing on his extensive experience across primary and secondary education, Sean shared strategies to build psychological safety, strengthen student engagement, and create inclusive learning environments where every student can thrive.
Facilitated by Amanda Derbyshire from KIDDO and Greg Schneiders from Active Education Australia, this interactive panel and collaborative planning session brought together educators and school leaders to explore what physical literacy looks like in practice in the Primary School setting. From standards-based athletics carnivals, to school physical literacy days and starting with a focus on the social domain, this session was packed with great take-aways.
