From improved attendance to more confident teaching, Minyerri School is using KIDDO to bring structure, energy, and fun to movement across the school—despite the challenges of a remote setting.

A remote school supporting students from Transition to Year 12

Minyerri School, located 264 km southeast of Katherine, serves around 150 students from Transition to Year 12.
With limited access to specialist support, staff were seeking a way to deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned HPE across mixed-age classrooms.

“Before I found KIDDO, I was an emerging teacher who had just moved to the NT… I never really felt like I was on the front foot - I always felt behind.”

A practical, flexible PE program that works

KIDDO is embedded across Minyerri’s PE program, providing structure while allowing flexibility—essential in a remote school where classes vary day to day.

  • One-hour PE blocks are built using KIDDO lessons, games, and assessment tasks
  • Teachers mix and match content to suit different age groups, abilities, and time constraints
  • Movement is consistent, engaging, and easy to deliver across all primary year levels

“The KIDDO program is fantastic because I can easily access multiple lessons across all age groups and quickly and efficiently modify them to suit the students I have.”

Minyerri Throw
Daily movement that supports focus and wellbeing

KIDDO activities aren’t limited to PE. At Minyerri, short movement breaks and simple games are woven throughout the day to improve focus, lift energy, and support behaviour.

  • Teachers use KIDDO brain breaks as part of their classroom wellbeing strategies
  • Movement is now a regular, fun part of school life—not just something saved for sport

“The kids engage really well with it—even when they don’t realise it’s part of a structured program.”

Teachers feel confident and supported - no matter their experience

With a high proportion of graduate teachers and limited access to specialist networks, Minyerri staff have leaned on KIDDO’s tools and team for guidance and support.

  • Structured, curriculum-aligned resources reduce planning time and stress
  • Lesson consistency has improved across classes and year levels
  • Ongoing support from KIDDO’s NT-based Regional Program Manager has helped teachers build confidence and momentum

“KIDDO took a lot of pressure off me — it’s easy to follow, flexible across year levels, and aligned with the curriculum, which makes planning in a remote school so much less stressful.”

Assessment is data driving real teaching decisions

Since 2024, teachers have completed 114 movement assessments (FMS and CAMSA), using the data to tailor support:

  • Balance scores were above the national average
  • Bouncing and catching were flagged as skills needing more focus
  • Assessment results now inform targeted teaching and intervention

“The data has shown me where students are thriving, and where they need more support. It’s been an amazing tool to have access to.”

Minyerri Undercover
A shift in behaviour, engagement, and attendance

The introduction of KIDDO has supported:

  • Improved behaviour and attendance
  • Increased student engagement in movement and learning
  • More confident and organised staff

“I think the KIDDO program combined with our Remote Sporting Schools grant has definitely seen an improvement in behaviour and attendance.”
