Why KIDDO? A flexible, evidence-based start during COVID

When schools moved online during the early days of COVID, Amy was searching for resources to help keep students active at home. KIDDO offered a clear, structured approach that worked in any environment—kids could practise with socks in the living room or balls on the oval.

Drawn to KIDDO’s focus on Fundamental Movement Skills, Amy completed KIDDO’s professional development and began gradually integrating its lessons, games, and assessments into the PE program at RGS. Here are just a few of the reasons she loves KIDDO:

  • It's evidence-based resources
  • How it's improved student engagement
  • Assessment and data - the ability to track student progress
  • Simple and easy to remember verbal cues
  • Skill criteria & levelled skill videos

A staged rollout, guided by impact

Rather than rushing implementation, RGS took a strategic, four-year approach:

  • Year 1: Used KIDDO games to support PE sessions and encourage engagement
  • Year 2: Completed the Certificate of Physical Literacy and introduced explicit skill teaching
  • Year 3: Embedded full KIDDO units into Kindy–Year 3 PE lessons
  • Year 4: Began formal assessments using KIDDO’s Fundamental Movement Skill tools

“The teaching cues KIDDO provides for each skill are simple and catchy. I’ve found it easier to consistently use the same language over the years.”

Seeing the difference: Data driven decisions

KIDDO assessments are used to monitor student progress and guide next steps:

  • Prep–Year 3 students are assessed in skills like balance, running, jumping, and catching
  • Teachers enter results in the KIDDO platform to analyse and track trends over time

The structure gives teachers the confidence in what they’re observing - and what to do next.

The graph shows one Prep class which improved their 50m run time by more than a second across just four months, a significant improvement lifting the class average above the national benchmark

PE and beyond: Movement that supports learning

RGS now incorporates KIDDO into the wider school experience:

  • Teachers incorporate movement as part of active learning and wellbeing routines
  • Games and short activities are used in classrooms for brain breaks and transitions
  • Students are engaged—often without realising they’re developing critical physical skills
