- When should I assess using rubrics?
- Changing the assessment date

1. Creating a rubric assessment
First, make sure you have students in your class. See 'Adding and Managing Students' for information on how to add students.
Then you need to create your assessment:
IMPORTANT: Check to make sure all the students you are assessing are added to the one assessment (even if you are conducting assessments on different days). If you have new students in your class, see 'Adding more students to an assessment' below for instructions on how to add them to your assessment.
- Click on the 'Dashboard' button in the top right-hand side of the page (or the 'Dashboard' button next to your class if you teach multiple classes)
- Click on the subheading ‘Assessments’ (it’s between 'Overview' and 'Programs')
- Choose 'Add Rubric'
- Give your assessment a name, e.g., 'Year 5C, Term 1 - Net/Wall', and select a date for when you plan to assess. If you are running the assessment over multiple dates, try to choose a date that is somewhere in the middle
- Select which students you are planning to assess (ideally, select them all)
- Use the drop-down menu to choose which rubric you would like to use
- Then click ‘Save’ if you are starting the assessment at another time or ‘Save and Run’ if you want to get started straight away.
2. Running a rubric assessment online
Before beginning, click on the 'Instructions' box (below the blue assessments bar at the top of the assessment dashboard). You can find detailed instructions for how to administer the Rubric Assessment.
Now you are ready to assess!
- Click on the three dots to the right of the assessment you created
- Select 'Run trials'
- If you haven't yet done so, read the 'Rubric Instructions' in the top left-hand corner
- Select the student you would like to start with and click on the arrow next to their name and select 'Go'
- As you are watching them participate in the assessment activity, select the appropriate box for that student for each learning outcome.
- You can find more information about each learning outcome by clicking on the 'i' next to each one.
- Once complete, click ‘Save trial’, and you will automatically be taken back to your class list of students
- You can now move on to a new student by clicking on the arrow next to the student's name you would like to assess
- Once completed, the students will have a green dot next to their name
- A blue box will appear at the bottom, which says 'Data Sync in Progress. Please remain on this page until all data has been synced'. Do not navigate away from the page until the data has been saved
NOTE: If you accidentally select the wrong student, you can navigate back to the class list by clicking the 'x' in the black box in the top right-hand corner.
3. Running a rubric assessment offline
If you are having issues with your device and/or internet, you can still input all of your assessment results into your device, and they will be synced when you return to internet access.
- Click on the three dots to the right of the assessment you created while you are connected to the internet
- Select 'Run trials' and ensure that you are on the page containing your student list
- Once your device is on this page, it does not matter if you have an internet connection - all your results will be saved. A blue box will appear saying 'Data sync in progress' along with the number of items that remain to be synced. e.g., If you entered 20 students' data, it will say 20 items remaining
- When your device reconnects to the internet, all the data will automatically be synced, or you can press the refresh button in your browser, and a message will pop up that says 'Data upload in progress. Hang tight, this shouldn't take long! Speed may vary depending on your connection.'
- Remain on the screen and wait for synchronisation to complete
4. How to enter bulk assessment data
This method is ideal if you prefer collecting assessment data on paper and inputting it later.
- Click on the three dots to the right of the assessment you created
- Select 'Bulk entry'
- Click the arrow next to the student to begin entering data
- If you don’t have data for certain students, just leave it blank.
- Data is saved automatically once entered
- Use the blue comments box to include additional remarks
- Remain on the bulk entry screen after entering all data for a class and wait for synchronisation to complete before moving to the next class.
Important - As you enter the data, the system needs to sync, and you will see a blue box pop-up as this happens. You can continue entering the data for this class’s assessment, as it is all still saved and will continue syncing as you enter the data. If you are entering the data at a fast pace, you may need to wait a few minutes after entering one class before moving on to the next class to allow the data to sync successfully. Please do not navigate away from the bulk entry page until the data is synced.
5. Adding more students to an assessment
- Firstly, you must ensure the student has been added to your class. See 'Adding and Managing Students' for instructions
- Go into your 'Dashboard'
- Click on the three dots to the right of the assessment you created
- Select 'Modify'
- Keep selecting 'Next' until you get to 'Students'. The new student should show up on your list. You need to tick their name to add them to the assessment
- Click 'Save' or 'Save and Run'
6. Exporting rubric assessment data
You must be a manager for your school to export assessment data:
- In the ⚙ ‘cog’ (management) section, click on ‘Rubric Results’
- Select the rubric you would like to export
- Select the classroom you would like to export the data from. You can select multiple classrooms by holding down the ‘Shift’ key
- Alternatively, you can choose to filter by the assessment date
- Click ‘Filter’
- Click ‘Download CSV’. Your data will be exported into an Excel spreadsheet
