Children work in groups to create, practice and perform a gymnastics-inspired routine that includes locomotion movements, balances, music and creative use of equipment. It's a fun way to combine gymnastics skills with teamwork and creativity!

Set up
  • Divide the children into small groups or pairs.
  • Give each group/pair a designated space to create their routine in, depending on the space you have available.
  • Provide a range of equipment for children to use in their routine's if they wish, such as hoops, soft balls and ribbons.
  • You will need a portable speaker or sound system if you wish to use music for this activity.

Note: Gymnastics develops all-round physical skills including strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. All activities should be conducted in a safe environment with appropriate supervision, equipment and space. Educators should always encourage proper technique and adapt skills and activities to suit individual abilities.

How to play
Step 1:
  • Allocate pairs/groups and designated a working space for each pair/group.
  • Each pair/group must work together to create a short gymnastics routine (1 - 2 minutes long).
  • Educator can provide a range of equipment that can be used creatively in the routine if they wish.
Step 2:
  • When ready, pairs/groups can perform their routine to another pair/group or to the educator.
  • Music can be used if a portable speaker/sound system is available.
Step 3:
  • Change it up and challenge children by asking them to include specific movements in their routine.
  • Have groups attempt to learn and perform another groups routine.
