Opposite Actions

Educator classroom

A quick-thinking movement game where children must do the opposite of the educator's action or command.

Set up

This game can be played standing behind desks or sitting for flexibility. Ensure children a small space to move safely.

How to play
Step 1:

The educator calls out an action (e.g., "jump"), but the children must do the opposite action (e.g., crouch).

Step 2:

If the educator says “Clap your hands,” children must keep their hands still.

Step 3:

Continue the game with different actions, gradually increasing the speed for a challenge.

Step 4:

Optional: If a child makes a mistake, they do a quick silly dance before rejoining the game.

Variations
Make it easier
  • Limit to two or three actions before adding additional movements.
  • Slow down the commands – give children more thinking time between actions.
Make it harder
  • Silent version – play without verbal commands and use hand signals or gestures, and children must respond accordingly.
