Punctuation Karate

class balance

An energetic classroom game where students act out punctuation marks using fun Karate-style movements, reinforcing literacy skills through movement.

Set up

Ensure children have space to move safely. Remind children that all movements should be controlled and non-contact.

How to play
Step 1:

The educator calls out a punctuation mark (e.g., period, comma, exclamation mark, question mark).

Step 2:

Children create a movement that represents the punctuation (e.g., a strong stomp for a period, a jumping kick for an exclamation mark, a swooping motion for a comma).

Step 3:

The educator can speed up, slow down or mix punctuation marks to keep students engaged.

Step 4:

Add a partner challenge — one student performs a punctuation move, and their partner guesses which one it is.

Variations
