Attacking Skills (Invasion Games)

Invasion games include sports such as AFL, soccer, hockey, rugby, basketball, and netball. Attacking in invasion games focuses on creating space through constant movement, sharp direction changes, and quick acceleration into open areas while using clear signals to communicate with teammates.
Teaching cues
When teaching attacking skills in invasion games we teach children how to create space by moving when they don't have the ball.
Use KIDDO’s teaching vocabulary to help children develop these attacking skills:
- Ready: Always be on the move, staying light on your feet
- Change direction: Use quick, sharp changes of direction to lose your defender
- Explode: Accelerate into open spaces to receive the ball
- Signal: Use hand gestures or call for the ball to let teammates know you're ready
