Why Physical Literacy Week matters

In the early years, children are developing the foundations for life. Physical Literacy Week gives Early Childhood Education and Care services and families fun, ready-to-go activities that:

🏃 Build movement skills – Balance, throw, run, jump — the building blocks of being active for life.
💡 Boost brain development – Movement grows brain connections for learning, focus and problem-solving.
🤝 Grow social skills – Play builds cooperation, communication and emotional regulation.
🌟 Build confidence – Every success helps children feel capable and ready to try new things.
🎉 Encourage active play – Daily challenges celebrate the joy of moving and playing together.

Physical Literacy Week FAQs

Find all the answers to any questions you might have below. If you have any further questions, please just reach out to admin@kiddo.edu.au

Do services have to pay to participate?

No — Physical Literacy Week is completely free. Every registered service receives:

  • A digital kit (posters, activity cards, parent flyers, at-home sheets)
  • Free access to the KIDDO ECEC site during the week
  • Access to the Educator Webinar
  • Entry into prize draws

⭐ The first 100 services to register will also receive a free physical kit delivered to their service.

Can services all over Australia participate?

Yes! Physical Literacy Week is a national event. Services anywhere in Australia can register and take part. The first 100 services to register will also receive a physical kit, delivered to your door.

Can Primary Schools participate?

Physical Literacy Week is designed especially for early childhood education and care services. However, primary schools who wish to celebrate can still register and access the digital kit to use with their Pre-school and Foundation students.

Can Family Day Care services participate?

Yes! Family Day Care educators can register and will receive the digital kit. The Daily Challenges are flexible and easy to adapt for small groups or home environments. If you’re in the first 100 to register, you’ll also receive a physical kit.

Do I need to be a KIDDO member?

No — Physical Literacy Week is open to members and non-members.

  • Non-members get free access to the KIDDO ECEC site (resources unlocked during PL Week) and the At-Home site for families (kiddo.edu.au/home).
  • Members also get access to the Parent Hub Challenge, with exclusive bonus prizes for families.

Do we have to do all the Daily Challenges?

We encourage services to complete all five Daily Challenges to get the full experience and go into the bonus prize draw. But don’t worry — even one or two challenges is a great way to join the celebration.

When will my service receive its kit?

  • Physical kits will be delivered in the week of 13 October 2025.
  • All services will also receive the digital kit via email in mid-October.

Do I need special equipment to join in?

No. The Daily Challenges use simple, everyday equipment (beanbags, balloons, masking tape, chalk) that most services already have. Your kit will include key items to get you started.

What if my service is really busy that week?

That’s okay — the activities are short and designed to slot easily into your program. Even one or two challenges is a great way to celebrate movement and play with your children.

How do families get involved?

Each service will receive:

  • A Parent Flyer explaining the week
  • An At-Home Challenge Sheet with fun family activities
  • Links to the free KIDDO At-Home website
  • Social media content to share with your community to build the excitement

⭐ Families in member services can also explore the exclusive Parent Hub.

When will the prizes be drawn?

Prizes will be drawn after Physical Literacy Week, once services complete the short feedback survey. Winners will be contacted directly and announced in the KIDDO newsletter.
